Fort Zoutman Historical Museum

Historical museum inside Fort Zoutman, the oldest remaining building in Oranjestad, beside the Willem III Tower.

About

Fort Zoutman was built for coastal protection and completed in 1798 after two years of construction; the tourism board calls it the oldest remaining building in Oranjestad. It is named after Dutch Rear Admiral Johan Arnold Zoutman. The adjacent Willem III Tower, built in 1868, served as a lighthouse and public clock tower until its light was extinguished in 1963. The museum displays historic documents, and a replica kitchen in the courtyard shows traditional Aruban cooking.
