Ayo Rock Formations
Tonalite boulder site and sacred Indigenous location with ancient rock drawings and interpretive trails.
About
Ayo is a cultural and natural site of large tonalite boulders formed about 88 million years ago and shaped by spheroidal weathering. Pottery shards, shells and red and white pictographs show it was visited by Indigenous communities as early as 900 A.D., and experts consider it a sacred site. Two interpretive trails (Muser Trail and Explorers Trail) explain its geology, flora and fauna, and history.
